Welcome to the Fall update to the Ferris Family Genealogy Research Project. I wish to thank Phillip and Andi Sweet for their valuable contribution of data and information to my research. Their years of great work added to my data is beyond words. I look forward to exchanging lots of genealogy and other information with them in the future. Also my cousins down south from Walter's family are to be thanked for sending data and thoughts to me. I have corrected mistakes pointed out to me by a few readers and have added new data contributed by many others. I hope you find this site informative about the Ferris Family and those other families I am currently researching. I invite you to register and post on the Bulletin Board generated by phpBB Some of the families I am researching have a place to post. I hope you might use that bulletin board to coommunicate to me events such as births, marriages and deaths so that I might keep our family current. It's also a place you can just post your thoughts and maybe meet others in this family As this is a family board I do ask that posting be kept family orientated. I will delete all those who do not meet this requirement.
To find your family tree click on the Individuals link at the top of the page and find your name or the closest family member to you. Click on that name when you find it and you will be taken to a page that will give you genealogical information about you and your immediate family including ancestry going back five generations if I have found them in research. You may click on any name at any time to further your search You can print your own family ancestry chart from this page If you find errors in my research or even additions you want to give me please email me or use the bulletin board forum to communicate with me. My email is posted on the Contact links. I have used GRAMPS as an open-source software to create and keep my research organized. Keeping almost twenty families and their descendants organized and accessible is no easy feat. If you are interested in genealogy as a hobby please contact me and I will be glad to start you down the road. For almost twenty years I have been obsessed with this hobby. I can suggest different software to help keep it organized and places to begin your own research.
I have created a Photographs link so that you can submit photos and pictures. I have posted some very old pictures of the Ferris family and one from the MacDonald family. I promise to post more as time permits. You may submit pictures to me by emailing them For now I am still working on the Web design and inputting new information in the data base.
The Biographies link was added to give a more rounded out and personal view of our ancestors. I have started with Thomas Ferris, the original Ferris to arrive here from Ireland in the middle 1800s and skipped to my grandfather named also Thomas Ferris. A brief history based on public records, family conversations, and pictures are surrounded by historical markers to try and create an interesting view of our ancestors life. I will create more as time permits and invite you to create your own or at the very least suggest someone you would like to see on the Biographies page.
Finally I hope you visit this site often and find in it the love for genealogy I have found over the twenty or so years I have been at it. The years I have spent with our dead ancestors have brought my family more alive to me and every new lost cousin I have found is rewarding. I am trying this year to visit more family and get out from behind this computer screen more. I guess I find it harder to communicate with the living then I do the dead. Thank you for looking in on my web page! Please spread my site to your family and let them make their own contributions or look and see what I am trying to accomplish. Perhaps you will be interested and want to help? Don't hesitate to contact me with suggestions, corrections or any other other communication. I look forward to hearing from all of you at johnferris@verizon.net.
