Ferris Roots

Welcome to the Spring 2009 version of goodIrishstock.com. This web site specializes in collecting, researching interpreting compiled genealogies of the family histories of the Ferris, Maloney, Nickerson, MacDonald, Porteus, MacEachern, McFarland, Donnelly, Griffin, Muse, MacPhee, Kelly, Regan, Murray, Conneelly, Connors, MacCallum, Leahy, Babbington, and Graney surnames that are my ancestors or that of my wife. It is my express wish to authenticate, preserve and present these genealogies so that they might be shared with family and friends.

The Spring Version has a few needed changes. First my blog is finally up and running so please stop in for a peek by clicking on the Blog link. I have added some new Photographs from my collection and those of my Aunt Mary Crocket (Ferris). Last I have added all the changes and corrections collected and researched over the winter season. I welcome suggestions and comments regarding this site which you may make by emailing on this link Contact using the subject heading GENEALOGY. I respond to every email I receive.

To view your family tree click on the Individuals link at the top of the page and find your name or the closest family member to you. Click on that name and you will be taken to a page that will give you genealogical information about you and your immediate family including ancestry going back five generations if I have found them in research. You may click on any name at any time to further your search You can print your own family ancestry chart from this page. I have used GRAMPS as an open-source software to create and keep my research organized. Keeping almost twenty families and their descendants organized and accessible is no easy feat. If you are interested in genealogy as a hobby please contact me and I will be glad to start you down the road. For over twenty years I have been obsessed with this hobby. I can suggest different software to help keep it organized and places to begin your own research. I also invite you to become a member of this site and contribute. At the very least email me and tell me you dropped in to view my site and say hello.

The Biographies link was added to give a more rounded out and personal view of our ancestors. I have started with Thomas Ferris, the original Ferris to arrive here from Ireland in the middle 1800s and skipped to my grandfather named also Thomas Ferris. A brief history based on public records, family conversations, and pictures are surrounded by historical markers to try and create an interesting view of our ancestors time, culture and life. I will create more as time permits and invite you to create your own or at the very least suggest someone you would like to see on the Biographies page.

Finally I hope you visit this site often and find in it the love for genealogy I have found over the twenty or so years I have been at it. The years I have spent with our dead ancestors have brought my family history alive to me and every new lost cousin I have found is rewarding. I am trying this year to visit more family and get out from behind this computer screen more. I guess I find it harder to communicate with the living then I do the dead. Thank you for looking in on my web page! Please spread my site to your family and let them make their own contributions or look and see what I am trying to accomplish. Finally I thank my immediate family for their patience with me as I continue to spend hours of precious time with our dead ancestors. My hobby (obsession) would not be possible without their patience, understanding and love.
