Good Irish Stock History and Geneology Research Project - Repositories

Welcome to the 2010 Summer version of goodirishstock.com. This web site specializes in collecting researching, and inperpreting, compiled genealogies and family histories of Ferris, Babbington, Conneelly, Connors, Donnelly, Graney, Griffin, Kelly, Leahy, MacCallum, MacDonald, MacEachern, MacPhee, Maloney, McFarland, Murray, Muse, Nickerson, Porteus, and Regan surnames that are my ancestors of that of my wife. It is my express wish to authenticate, preserve, and present these genealogies in order to share them with my family and interested friends. The data collected for "The Ferris Library" has been ongoing over the last twenty years and this site is the result of my desire to encourage communication between the different branches of our family, encourage participation in the further research of our family tree, and to insure the data is accurate and up to date.

To begin exploring this site press the INDIVIDUAL tab at the top to select a specific person whose information you want to view or press SURNAMES to select a specific family you care to look at. PLACES will take you to areas around the world our family have had events in. EVENTS will list a mulititude of events you can choose to explore about the person you are researching. MEDIA will allow you to view documents and pictures of certain family members if media is attached to their name and authorized for viewing. SOURCES and REPOSITORIES show you where certain information attached to ancestors were found. By pressing the BIOGRAPHIES tab you may select one of the biographies written by the author of this site. It is here I have tried to put a timeline together with the known facts about our ancestor and track his life from birth to death. BLOG will link you to a blog I started to replace the old buggy Bulletin Board. In the blog I write sporadically documenting news about the goodirishstock site, my daily work on researching our family, and what my future plans I have to continue this work. ANCESTRY will link you to that very informative site where you can further explore family trees I have on their site or create your own account and trees. PHOTOGRAPHS will link you to a site where you can view old photographs from my library or from the collection of other family members. I encourage you to email me photographs you would like to see posted of events or people. Finally CONTACT provides you with a way to tell me what's on your mind regarding this site. You can write me a letter, send me an email or even call my phone.

If you become interested in furthering the research on your family or would like to join this project please contact me. Collecting, researching, valadating, and inputting data, obtaining, editing and organizing pictures and documents, researching, writing and editing biographies, interviewing, documenting and writing conversations with family members, and even helping to improve this site through design, and coding are all needed to keep this project running. At present the site is set up so that you may only view the data. All additions, corrections, photographs, stories, biographies and other events my be submitted to me before becoming a viewable part of this site. I must keep control over the content until finding others committed to help work on this project.

Hopefully you will enjoy your exploration of my "hobby" ( obsession ). I must thank my family, Jeanne, Jack, Joseph, and Daniel who allowed me the hours, days, months and years of time, "playing with my dead relatives" as they say. I would not be able to be writing and sharing this project with you without their love and support. Thanks to the many "cousins" near and distant who have contributed valuable and wonderful stories and data so that my data is up to date and correct. This year my Deleware, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New England family have been particularly helpful in keeping me enthused and focused on pushing forward my research. Finally I mourn the passing of Mary Catherine Ferris (Crocket) who always had time to encourage my work. Her love for family and her knowledge of our family will be sorely missed. Her interest in my hobby rescued this project many times. Her generousity and curiousity kept my research going. Standing in the winter rain in Cambridge Cemetery where her father and great grand father was buried along with a couple of dozen other family members is a day that won't be forgotten. Not many other of my family would care to accompany me on these adventures but Aunt Mary not only enthusiastically joined me but made the trip enjoyable.

My research has brought me to many cemeteries, public repositories, city halls, court houses, online sites, phone calls, visits, emails, and letters. but the most important thing it has brought me is you. Finding my living family near and far to share my love with genealogy has been the most rewarding part of this whole experience. The joy of discovering our "unknown" relatives and adding them to the family tree keeps me doing this project. The positive comments from you thanking me for doing this astounds me because this whole project I started as a quest for me to discover my family roots. That it brings joy to others is really a bonus. Please continue to comment, compliment, correct, or celebrate this research project with me. Your data, stories, picture, and words help drive this project as much as anything I do on this computer and without you my work would be overwhelming. Write or call and tell me what's on your mind. I have found the past is the key to the future and the more you know, the more grounded you will be in the present. Thanks for visiting and enjoy the site.
